Hertz To Make Nissan Leaf Available For Rent

by Nissan in the News on February 17, 2010

Nissan this week released details of how consumers can get in line to claim their own Leaf electric vehicle. But side from car buyers getting behind the wheel the Leaf, this new EV will soon be available to rent under a new joint partnership between Nissan and Hertz.

Hertz is the world’s largest car rental brand, and it will bring the ultra green Nissan Leaf to car rental customers in the US and in Europe in early 2011. Although many details have yet to be announced, the Leaf will be available only at select Hertz rental locations. It’s likely that the Leaf will be offered in the same markets where Nissan is currently working with Ecotality and others to develop a public charging infrastructure.

“The partnership with Nissan seals Hertz’s commitment to green-car rentals and firmly demonstrates our mission to advancing zero-emission mobility on a global scale,” said Mark P. Frissora, Hertz Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “With unique solutions like the Hertz Green Collection already available to our customers, we believe in continuously providing innovative mobility solutions to sustain the growing demand for eco-travel.”

Hertz plans to make the Nissan Leaf available to the more densely populated areas first. Ultimately, both company want the Leaf to become available for Hertz’s global car sharing service, Connect by Hertz. With zero-emissions, Hertz is excited to offer a vehicle to even the most eco-conscious rental customers. And, with a driving range of 100 miles, the Leaf should be an attractive offering among urban rental locations.
