Next Nissan GT-R to Get Infiniti Hybrid System

by Nissan in the News on December 23, 2009

The Nissan GT-R just can’t seem to stop generating buzz. The latest rumors are surrounding the next-generation GT-R and the possibility of a hybrid powertrain. More power may be squeezed out  in the new GT-R with the addition of a 160 horsepower electric motor.

Sources that recently spoke with Inside Line have also indicated that the Nissan GT-R will receive the same hybrid system that will soon be available with the upcoming Infiniti M35 Hybrid sedan. Although the system will be similar, the Infiniti’s will deliver less power, and will not have an all-wheel drive system like the GT-R.

If rumors turn out to be true, we could see a 600 horsepower sports car that can deliver a respectable 30 miles per gallon, compared to the current model’s 15 mpg city/21 mpg highway. Unfortunately, the next generation GT-R will not be making its debut any time before 2012.
