Although the Nissan Cube is new to the U.S., it actually began the boxy crossover trend when it was released back in Japan in 1998. Surely its styling will appeal only to a narrow segment of consumers, but as it enters its third generation the Nissan Cube has finally made it to the U.S. and offers an attractive offering for the style-conscious youth demographic.

The five-door cube is specifically designed for Generation Y and provides buyers with a fair degree of individualization, much like with competing models such as from the Scion brand. In fact, Nissan offers more than 40 dealer installed accessories for the Cube, which makes outfitting your own as easy.

Powering the base Nissan Cube is a 1.8-liter four cylinder engine, the same unit used in the Nissan Versa. The engine produces 122 horsepower and 127 lb-ft of torque. There’s a choice of either a six-speed manual gearbox or an Xtronic CVT that balances performance and fuel economy. With over 30 miles per gallon on the highway, the Cube produces ample power and even more mpg.

The Nissan Cube’s interior design is perhaps just as distinctive as its exterior styling, but best of all it’s available with plenty of amenities. Standard features include power accessories, CD player with an input for mp3 players, and an array of safety features. Other available features include 16-inch alloy wheels, upgraded audio, and even a parking sonar. The top of the line Krom model adds a powerful Rockford Fosgate subwoofer and multicolor interior illumination.

Nissan is hoping to target 18 to 25 year old buyers with its unusual design, cavernous interior space, and competitive fuel economy. Among Boston Nissan dealers, the Cube has already been the vehicle of choice for many consumers that considered the Scion xB. With the help of marketing that highlights all its distinctive features, Nissan may have the right product for this elusive demographic.

Its compact size, roomy interior, and surprising versatility, also make the Cube a popular choice for those living in urban areas according to Seattle Nissan Cube dealerships. With over 50 cubic feet of storage, the Cube may look small, but it can easily accommodate passengers and gear more easily than other vehicles in its class.
