Nissan continues to work on its electric vehicle program and is planning on releasing an all-electric vehicle by next year. Although the styling of Nissan’s electric vehicle has not been finalized, clues have already emerged on what cues are likely to appear in the final design.

The Nissan EV will likely have a stunning presence to evoke the look of a true electric car rather than just another hybrid vehicle. As such, one used car dealer Philadelphia doesn’t expect any of the wedge-like lines of the new Honda Insight or Toyota Prius. Instead, the Nissan EV will have a far curvier body that will help distinguish it from other eco-friendly vehicles which will of course also help aerodynamics and efficiency.

One of the most distinguishing design features of the new Nissan EV will be the grille. Without any engine up front, Hartford Used Cars points out there is no need to have a grille at all. In addition, the lack of an engine means less bulk overall along the hood. The front end of the EV will also feature the recharging plug.

The current Nissan EV design reportedly has a moderately higher drag coefficient than the new Toyota Prius and the Honda Insight. However, Nissan has indicated that more design tweaks are underway, including underbody updates which a New Haven body shop believes will will help drive air flow slightly better.

Nissan’s design team had plenty of restrictions when it came to the design of the EV. Perhaps the greatest constraint was cost. While many consumers are likely to either love it or hate it, the Nissan EV’s design was intended to keep development costs down, which in the end is good for the consumer according to Tacoma Auto Loans. That being said, the design had to be bold in order to stand out from the plethora of hybrids currently on the market, as well as other EVs under development among other automakers.

The Nissan Nuvu concept released last year appears to be the best indication of how the Nissan EV will look. Nissan has also been working on a EV version of its popular Cube compact crossover.
