Even with its reputation for innovation, it turns out that Nissan does some of its best thinking inside the box—at least when that “box” is the distinctive Nissan Cube. The eye-catching Cube is back and better than ever for 2012, showcasing a high-value MSRP and a fresh new Indigo Limited Edition model.
Pricing for the Cube starts at just $14,980 for the base model with a six-speed manual transmission, while the Cube 1.8 S with the same transmission begins at $16,420; adding Nissan’s efficient continuously variable transmission (CVT) brings the bottom line to $17,420, while the range-topping Cube 1.8 SL, available only with a CVT, opens at $18,520.
All models are powered by a peppy 122-hp I4 engine that’s capable of up to 31 mpg highway, and all boast a spacious cabin with an innovative three-position, theater-style reclining second-row seats, the Cube’s signature “water droplet” interior accents, asymmetrical gauges, and innovative/removable cargo hooks. Everything is then wrapped up in one of the most distinctive exteriors on the road today, highlighted by asymmetrical rear glass and a “refrigerator-style” rear hatch.
Then, based on the up-level Cube 1.8 S, the Indigo version will drive away the blues thanks to added features like:
- 15-inch split six-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels
- Specific Black/Indigo seat trim
- Nissan’s Intelligent Key with push-button start
- A navigation system that includes a 5-inch touchscreen
- A rearview camera system
- Six upgraded speakers, with a Rockford Fosgate 8-inch subwoofer and amplifier
- iPod compatibility via a USB connection port
In other words, when it comes to offering a unique combination of style and substance in a practically priced package, you could say the Cube has the market cornered.
