Early November sees Nissan heading to Argentina for the final round of this year’s FIA GT1 World Championship. Coming off their amazing 2011 success in motorsports, they’ve now set their sights on a double-Championship victory.

Michael Krumm and Lucas Luhr enter the race weekend as leaders in the GT1 Drivers’ Championship standings at the Lago Potrero de los Funes circuit in San Luis in the #23 JRM Racing Nissan GT-R, while JRM is a close second in the Teams’ Championship. With the possibility of points for the Qualifying and Championship races, Krumm, Luhr and JRM will be seeking race victory inspired by those who have been triumphant while wearing Nissan colors this year.

Simon Sproule, Nissan’s Corporate Vice President of Global Marketing Communications, commented: “Our great results in motorsport in 2011 are testament to the efforts and talents of many people – teams of drivers, technicians, engineers and plenty of others behind the scenes – who have worked hard to ensure that the Nissan name has been at the top of the standings wherever we’ve competed this year.

“The success owes much to Nissan’s rich motorsport heritage at iconic races such as Le Mans, as well as the engineering excellence inherent in road vehicles like the 370Z and GT-R. There is a lot of crossover between road and track technology, and we constantly strive to apply what we learn from motorsport into our production models, and not just at the high performance end of the range. That is why motorsport, and being the best, is so very important to Nissan.”

In addition to selling the only mass-market all-electric no-emissions vehicle in the world – the LEAF – Nissan is continuing its efforts to bring innovation to all with notable tech enhancements to its vehicles powered by internal-combustion engines. This includes recently unveiling two next-generation powertrain systems that will help U.S. drivers achieve higher levels of fuel efficiency beginning in 2012.

According to Nissan Dealers In Seattle, the automaker’s all-new XTRONIC continuously variable transmission (CVT), designed specifically for engines with 2.0 to 3.5 liters of displacement, is set to reach North American products starting next year. The advanced transmission builds on Nissan’s longtime industry leadership role in CVT technology with:

  • Ratio coverage of a full 7.0 – the widest of any CVT in the world for the aforementioned engine sizes – providing enhanced drivability
  • 40 percent less friction for further fuel-economy gains
  • The latest version of Nissan’s Adaptive Shift Control, which adapts a vehicle’s shifting patterns to better match different driving styles and road conditions [click to continue…]

While today’s Nissan Juke is certainly no slouch in the driving department—squeezing 188 horses out of its turbocharged 1.8-liter I4 engine—Maryland Nissan tells us the automaker has, unsurprisingly, begun exploring a higher-performance model aimed directly at enthusiasts. What’s more of a surprise is how the company is achieving this: Swapping out said engine for the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 that’s usually found making 530 hp in Nissan’s flagship sportscar, the GT-R. Bremerton Used Cars said the result will be a radical mashup known as the Juke-R—a street-legal concept being put together for Nissan by the internationally known motorsports team at RML.

To help make it even easier for U.S. customers to choose transportation solutions like the all-electric Nissan LEAF, Nissan and GE have recently signed a two-year research agreement aimed directly at developing a robust and reliable EV-charging infrastructure. Nissan announced its highest-ever market share in Europe, beating a 16-year old record. The automaker reached an overall September market share of 4.2 percent – a record for Europe and up almost a full percentage point from 2010. Previously, Nissan’s highest market share was 4.1 percent, which they reached in August 1995.

According to Nissan Dealers In Connecticut, the record month shows the company is on track to meet the challenges of its ‘Nissan Power 88′ midterm plan to establish Nissan as the largest Asian brand in Europe by 2016. [click to continue…]
