Recently Nissan announced it was building a special edition BRE 370Z to commemorate the original BRE Datsun 240Z. While it may appear to be overkill to launch yet another special edition model, in addition to the 40th Anniversary model which was also recently launched, the BRE was truly a remarkable car that helped prove Nissan was capable of building a formidable race car. Competing in races domestically as well as Europe, the BRE Datsun 240Z won the SCCA National Championship forty years ago, and it marked the first time a production-based car from Japan had won the title.
