If you’re tired of the average rental car on business trips and vacations, and would rather rent a vehicle that’s truly unique as well as eco-friendly, Hertz may have what you’re looking for. Beginning in 2011, Hertz will begin renting the all-new Nissan Leaf in both Europe and the United States.
By the time the Leaf reaches Hertz, it will of course be available for sale in some markets, but it won’t yet be available everywhere. Therefore, expect the Leaf to be available for rent first in California and Hawaii before it becomes available at Hertz locations nationwide. Hertz also confirmed that the Nissan Leaf will be available at select Connect by Hertz car-sharing locations.
“We expect to have the car available in select American cities next year,” said Paula Rivera, a company spokeswoman. “We’re in the process of finalizing the list.”
Of course there may be one kink for those vacationing in Hawaii and California – make sure you have the ability to charge your EV rental car. Customers will likely be encouraged to check with their hotel first to ensure they have somewhere to plug these vehicles in while they’re renting. And, for those considering buying a Leaf, Hertz may be providing the ideal opportunity to see what driving an EV is like before signing on the dotted line. That potential increase in consumer knowledge could be good for Leaf sales, CT Nissan says.
