Nissan-Renault chief Carols Ghosn has made no secret of the fact that he’s been looking to build strategic partnerships to leverage strengths and boost volume affordably. Well today, Nissan confirmed that Nissan-Renault has officially forged that alliance with German automaker Daimler AG
Under this new partnership, the three automakers will likely share a number of technologies and powertrains for future vehicles. According to MD Nissan Dealers, This includes an electric powered Smart ForTwo and Renault Twingo. Other co-development projects include development on light commercial vehicles as well as a number of passenger cars.
“The Renault-Nissan Alliance knows how to work successfully in collaborative partnerships, and this experience is extremely valuable in today’s and even more tomorrow’s global auto industry,” said Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO of the Renault-Nissan Alliance.
Mercedes-Benz’s strength in the premium segment will likely benefit both Nissan and Renault. Plans already will include a Daimler-sourced diesel engine for Infiniti. The German giant will also benefit from Nissan-Renault’s prowess when it comes to building compact vehicles. But Nissan Natick MA hopes this new alliance will also fuel more research and development on more 100 percent electric vehicles such as the all-new Nissan Leaf.
Managing this alliance will be a new cooperation committee that will provide representation to all parties involved. This committee will be co-chaired by Carlos Ghosn and Dieter Zetsche
